Register list for Spongiamicus weybensis gen. nov. sp. nov. and their lineage
Submitted by Rinke, Chris
Abstract
We propose the name for the phylum Spongiamicota phyl. nov. (former UBA8248). The type genus from which the name was derived, the type species and for associated higher ranks, i.e. Spongiamicaceae fam. nov., Spongiamicales order nov. and Spongiamicia class. nov., are also included in this register list.
Phylum Spongiamicota
- Etymology
- [Spon.gi.a.mi.co'ta] N.L. masc. n. Spongiamicus, referring to the type genus Spongiamicus; -ota, ending to denote a phylum; N.L. neut. pl. n. Spongiamicota, the Spongiamicus phylum
- Nomenclatural type
- Genus Spongiamicus
- Description
-
The highest relative abundances of this phylum were observed in sponge metagenomes from the marine sponge Aplysina aerophoba from the Gulf of Piran, Slovenia, and Ssperm DNA of Galaxea fascicularis from an undisclosed coral reef sample. The phylum has a global distribution and was mainly present in public shotgun metagenome datasets labelled as marine metagenomes, marine sediment metagenomes, seawater metagenome, and sponge metagenome.
