Cells can grow on ½MB, seawater-peptone, or in co-culture with diatoms as the sole carbon and amino-acids source. The reference strain, To15T, was isolated from seawater of the tropical Pacific Ocean 16 °N, 140 °W at 15 m water depth. The DNA G+C content of the nomenclatural type is 40.38 mol% (determined from the genome sequence), and the genome is 3.97 Mb in length.
