Description
Garrity et al., 2005: The phylum Proteobacteria was circumscribed for this volume on the basis of phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences. The phylum contains Gram-negative bacteria in the classes Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Deltaproteobacteria, and Epsilonproteobacteria.

Oren, Garrity, 2021: The properties of the taxon are as described by Garrity et al., 2005. Correction of the effectively published synonym: Proteobacteria (sic) Garrity et al. 2005. Type genus: Pseudomonas Orla Jensen 1921 (Approved Lists 1980).
