Janthinobacterium sp. HH106 was recently isolated from an aquatic source in the botanical garden of the City of Hamburg, Germany. The bacterium appears to be non-pathogenic and grows at 22?řC. The microorganism encodes several polyketide biosynthesis gene clusters including the purple pigment violacein.
