Taxonomy

Description
Obligate heterotroph. Anaerobic respiration: nitrate. Organic substrates include peptides, amino acids, carboxylates, sarcosine, formate, poly- and oligosaccharides, sugars. PHA storage. Also defined based on ANI, and phylogenies of 16S rRNA gene, 15 ribosomal proteins, and the GTDB.
Notes
Originally described by Ji et al. (2021) as Candidatus Zemynaea palustris. However, Bowman (2023) proposed the genus Zemynaea as a new genus for Massilia arenosa - which is considered validly published under the ICNP and a correct name. Therefore, the candidatus genus has been renamed Zemelea; i.e., derived from "Zemele", another of the names given to the goddess Zemyna.
