Taxonomy

Description
The species name crucis refers to the Alpha Crucis carbonate mound, a deep-sea site in the South Atlantic Ocean. The enrichment was cultivated from methanotrophic microbial consortia in sediments collected at this location. The name also alludes to the Southern Cross constellation (Crux), under which the site is located.
