Abstract: Ixodes ricinus harbors many infectious agents pathogenic for humans. A cause of fever is found in less than 50% of patients exposed to ticks. Investigations on 359 Ixodes ticks removed from asymptomatic patients in Northern Italy revealed the presence of a new ehrlichial agent in 10 ticks. Comparison of the 16S rRNA and the gltA gene sequences showed the organism is most closely related to Ehrlichia ruminantium. We propose this new Ehrlichia be named ‘candidatus Ehrlichia walkerii.’

Abstract: We collected 209 Ixodes persulcatus ticks in various regions of Russia, including the southern Urals and western and eastern Siberia. Abstract
During July 2002, surveys of mandarin orchards were conducted in Punakha Valley and Wangdue districts of Bhutan. Symptoms of the greening disease were observed in most of the orchard. The incidence of disease was recorded up to 30% in 24 private orchards with more than 5,000 trees total. Affected trees were generally stunted with leaves showing symptoms of mottling.
