Taxonomy

Description
Sulfobium mesophilum encodes the complete pathways for dissimilatory sulfate reduction and nitrate reduction to ammonia. Based on its genome, it is able to utilize butyrate, acetate, formate, and molecular hydrogen as electron donors. With a complete Wood-Ljungdahl pathway, Sulfobium mesophilum possesses the metabolic potential to oxidize organic matter completely to CO2.
