The family Rhizobiaceae contains 19 validly described genera including the rhizobia groups, many of which are important nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Early classification of Rhizobiaceae relied heavily on the poorly resolved 16S rRNA genes and resulted in several taxonomic conflicts.
